TienCars had earlier identified the standard-wheelbase, Hungarian-built BMW iX3 50 xDrive as the likely first version for Malaysia, a forecast now confirmed by its local launch.
Today’s launch was no surprise, although BMW’s first production Neue Klasse model had been much anticipated.
Malaysia gets one version initially: the iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro.
It costs RM378,800 on the road without insurance, or RM399,800 with BMW Service & Repair Inclusive. The package extends the unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty from two years to five and adds six years of unlimited-mileage servicing.
The launch offer lets buyers defer their first instalment for three months.
The launch follows a rapid production ramp-up at BMW’s new Debrecen plant. The Hungarian factory built its 50,000th iX3 nine months after series production began, while BMW said incoming orders were approaching 100,000 by late July.
BMW has separately confirmed that the Chinese-built long-wheelbase iX3 is planned for Malaysia and several other Asian markets. It was not announced alongside the standard-wheelbase model, and no Malaysian launch date has been given.
The iX3 measures 4,782mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,635mm tall, with a 2,897mm wheelbase. Its rear luggage compartment holds 520 litres, expanding to 1,750 litres with the back seats folded. A 58-litre compartment beneath the bonnet provides additional storage.
Its 108.7kWh battery operates with an 800-volt electrical system, giving the iX3 a 726km WLTP range. DC charging peaks at 400kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in 21 minutes.
BMW said 10 minutes can add up to 372km of WLTP range. The onboard AC charger accepts up to 22kW, with a quoted 0–100% time of five hours and 30 minutes.
Two electric motors provide all-wheel drive, producing 345kW and 645Nm. The iX3 reaches 100kph in 4.9 seconds and has a 210kph top speed. Its Heart of Joy controller coordinates propulsion, braking and energy recuperation through one central control unit.
The cabin introduces BMW Panoramic Vision across the lower windscreen, a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 3D head-up display. Indicator stalks and physical switches for the windows and mirrors remain.
Local specs includes 22-inch Y-spoke wheels, red M Sport brake callipers, heated and massaging front seats, a panoramic glass sunroof, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon system, Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Professional.
The interior is finished in black.
