Some X9s have a potentially serious air-suspension defect that XPeng has now acknowledged.
The carmaker will recall 33,473 X9 electric MPVs in China after manufacturing variations were found to have reduced the airtightness of their front air springs.
China’s State Administration for Market Regulation said the campaign covers vehicles built between Aug 8, 2023 and Aug 11, 2025. It will begin on Aug 28, 2026.
Prolonged use in hot and humid conditions could cause the front air springs to leak slowly, triggering a warning light and dashboard message. Vehicle handling may be affected in extreme cases.
XPeng will replace the front air-spring strut assemblies with improved parts at no charge. Vehicles already fitted with the revised components will not need another replacement.
The recall followed complaints from X9 owners who experienced air-suspension failures during high temperatures.
XPeng apologised in a notice posted to its owner community and extended coverage for the front air-spring system to eight years or 160,000km. The warranty follows the vehicle after a change of ownership.
The recall currently applies to the X9s in China.
The new X9 with the redesigned-bumper falls outside the China recall’s production period. No recall has been announced for that version in Malaysia. XPeng Malaysia has not confirmed the production dates or front air-spring specifications of every unit delivered here prior to the local debut of the latest X9.
