Thai action star Tony Jaa has received the keys to GAC Group’s 30-millionth vehicle, a right-hand-drive M8 plug-in hybrid MPV built for export markets.

GAC presented Jaa with the keys to a right-hand-drive M8 PHEV at its Guangzhou factory on July 16.

The M8 PHEV is sold as the GN8 in some overseas markets, although GAC’s Thai operation retains the M8 name.

The M8 PHEV currently sold in Thailand is a seven-seater with a 2+2+3 layout, priced at 2,499,000 baht (RM303,000).

The 5,212 mm-long MPV combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, producing 274 kW (367 hp) and 630 Nm.

Drive goes to the front wheels through a two-speed hybrid transmission, while the 0–100 kph run takes 8.8 seconds. Its 25.57-kWh battery provides 120 km of electric range under the NEDC cycle (96 km WLTP  estimate). Thai-market equipment includes powered sliding doors, three-zone climate control and second-row captain’s chairs with heating, ventilation, massage and a one-touch spa mode

Ahead of the ceremony, Jaa marked the occasion with a video on his official social media accounts.

The Ong-Bak star congratulated GAC on reaching 30 million global users, describing it as a remarkable achievement, and said he was looking forward to joining the event in Guangzhou.

GAC reached the production figure 29 years after its founding.

Five other new-energy models rolled off production lines immediately before the M8, including the GAC Honda P7, GAC Toyota bZ7, AION N60 and HYPTEC S600.

GAC also used the event to discuss overseas growth. The group said exports exceeded 120,000 vehicles during the first half of 2026, up 132% year on year, while its international network now covers 110 countries and territories.

Its Rayong plant in Thailand simultaneously marked production of its 10,000th vehicle.

The factory currently builds the Aion V and Aion UT and serves as GAC’s right-hand-drive production base for Southeast Asia and other regional markets.
