BYD distributor Sime Darby Motors has introduced the Seal Dynamic variant, expanding the lineup to three versions alongside the existing Premium and Performance models.
This new addition offers more choices for Malaysian customers, with over 2,200 Seal units already registered by the end of August.
The launch event at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, was attended by key figures including BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Eagle Zhao and senior executives from Sime Darby Motors.
Seal Dynamic RWD
The Seal Dynamic RWD, priced at RM163,800, is available in Cosmos Black and Aurora White.
An introductory offer provides a complimentary Wall Box Home charger for the first 100 bookings.
The Seal Dynamic comes with a 6-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, an 8-year or 160,000km battery warranty, and an 8-year or 150,000km drive unit warranty.
The Seal Dynamic RWD, powered by a 61.44 kWh LFP Blade battery pack, delivers 201hp and 310Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in 7.5 seconds.
Unfortunately, BYD still uses the outdated NEDC cycle instead of WLTP to cite a range of 510km, but the real range would certainly be closer to the WLTP range of around 460km.
The Seal Dynamic RWD supports DC charging up to 110 kW, and features vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. The sedan’s design includes a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, BYD App integration, and a premium 12-speaker Dynaudio system, providing a connected and comfortable driving experience.
The base variant maintains the brand’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design language. Its safety features include a five-star ANCAP safety rating, Ultra Safe Blade Battery technology with Cell-To-Body construction, nine airbags, and a comprehensive ADAS suite, ensuring high levels of protection for occupants.
The Dynamic variant’s 50:50 front and rear axle load distribution enhances stability, while a high-resolution 360-degree camera system offers additional safety. The car is equipped with 225/50 R18 tyres, distinct from the 235/45 R19 tyres on the Premium and Performance variants, and features a unique rim design.
The Seal lineup caters to a variety of needs, with the Premium RWD variant priced at RM179,800 and the AWD Performance variant at RM199,800, making the Dynamic variant the cheapest electric sedan locally for now. The Premium model offers a 650 km range, while the Performance version provides 580 km. All variants share similar infotainment and safety features, with slight differences in design and tyre specifications.
Atto 3
In addition to the Seal Dynamic launch, BYD has upgraded the Atto 3 model with a larger 60.48 kWh battery (previously 49.92kWh), extending its range to 420km (WLTP, 480km on NEDC cycle from 410km), and enhancing acceleration to 7.3 seconds (previously 7.9s) from 0 to 100kph. The electric motor driving the front axle is still the same as before at 150kW (201hp).
Other updates to the Atto 3 are:
– DC charging upgraded from 70kW to 88kW; AC charging remains at 7kW
– 8 speakers instead of six previously
– PM 2.5 air filter included
– One touch open/close tailgate
– Door handle ambient lighting now features multi-colour gradient with music rhythm
– Tyre size up from 17-inch to 18-inch
– Tyres changed to Continental EcoContact 6 Q
Price remains unchanged at RM149,800.
The first 300 bookings of the updated Atto 3 include a Wallbox Home Charger, 3-year service package, and 4 years of free road tax, further enhancing the brand’s appeal in the Malaysian market.
BYD has established a network of 25 showrooms and service centres across Malaysia, aiming to exceed 30 outlets by the end of 2024.
