Proton e.MAS has passed 20,000 sales in Malaysia less than seven months into 2026, led by the e.MAS 5 electric hatchback.
Pro-NET, Proton’s new-energy vehicle arm, said the milestone makes Proton e.MAS the country’s fastest xEV brand to reach that figure. The company uses xEV to cover fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The e.MAS 5 accounted for 60.9% of the brand’s sales, making it the clear volume driver. The larger e.MAS 7 contributed 15.8%, while the e.MAS 7 PHEV supplied the remaining 23.3%.
The split shows why Proton’s three-model approach is working. The e.MAS 5 brings a lower entry point for buyers ready to switch to a fully electric car. The e.MAS 7 covers the family-SUV market, while its plug-in hybrid sibling offers electric driving without relying entirely on public charging during longer journeys.
Proton had delivered 17,920 e.MAS vehicles during the first half of 2026. That included 10,793 e.MAS 5s, 3,053 e.MAS 7s and 4,074 e.MAS 7 PHEVs. Passing 20,000 before the end of July means more than 2,000 additional vehicles were sold in the opening weeks of the second half.
Pro-NET claims Proton e.MAS held 42.6% of Malaysia’s electric-vehicle market and 41.8% of the broader xEV market during the first six months of the year.
Registration figures compiled from Road Transport Department data broadly support its EV lead. Proton recorded 13,530 battery-electric registrations from January through June, equal to about 43% of the national EV market. The e.MAS 5 was Malaysia’s most-registered EV with 10,665 units, followed by the e.MAS 7 with 2,865.
Pro-NET chief executive officer Zhang Qiang credited customers for the result and said the company would continue investing in products, dealerships, service support and charging partnerships.
The next challenge is maintaining that pace as competition increases. Proton now has an early advantage in locally assembled electric vehicles, plus a plug-in hybrid that has quickly become a major part of the range.
