The BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase looks like the right car at the right time for Malaysia.
That is still not an official launch confirmation. But there are enough clues to explain why local media are treating the NA6 iX3 L as the likely first Neue Klasse model for this market.
BMW Group has already named Malaysia as one of the selected international markets for the long-wheelbase electric SUV, and BMW Group Malaysia managing director Benjamin Nagel gave the speculation more weight at a dealer awards event when he said: “(The year) 2026 will be a transformative year for BMW Group Malaysia with the introduction of the Neue Klasse — a new era of electric mobility.”
The iX3 Long Wheelbase made its world premiere at Auto China 2026 as the first long-wheelbase all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle based on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture.
Developed mainly for China, it gets a wheelbase stretched by 108 mm for better rear-seat space.
The hardware is serious too: 800 V electrical architecture, sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, up to 400 kW (544 PS) DC charging, a claimed CLTC range of more than 900 km and the ability to add more than 400 km of range in about 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
For Malaysia, it is not hard to see why this model keeps coming up.
SUVs remain a favourite body type among local buyers, and the premium market has long had a soft spot for long-wheelbase models because rear-seat comfort still sells cars here.
BMW Group Malaysia has not named the iX3 Long Wheelbase as its first Neue Klasse model, nor has it announced local pricing, launch timing or final specifications. Still, if Neue Klasse arrives here in 2026, the iX3 L looks like the front-runner.
For context, the i3 Long Wheelbase electric sedan also made its world debut at Auto China 2026, giving BMW two China-focused Neue Klasse models alongside the iX3 Long Wheelbase.
