Polestar 0 is now aiming for a net-zero car without offsets by 2035, after Polestar revised the project’s original 2030 timeline.
The Swedish EV maker said the change reflects the scale of the work, rather than a retreat from the target. Research is now being centred at Mission 0 House in Gothenburg, where Polestar is working with universities and companies on lower-emission materials and production processes.
The work includes a large-scale pilot for ultra-low-emission steel, battery-material research, bio-based textile alternatives and technologies that convert CO2 into new materials.
Mission 0 House was set up in 2025 and has secured nearly SEK 100 million (around RM43mil) in funding over five years.
The update comes as Polestar publishes its 2025 Sustainability Report. The company said it has cut greenhouse gas emissions per sold car by 31% since 2020, while expanding annual retail sales to more than 60,000 cars across 28 markets.
Polestar said the reduction came from greater use of renewable energy in battery production and manufacturing, lower-carbon materials and higher volumes of the Polestar 4, which it describes as its lowest-carbon car so far.
Europe remains Polestar’s biggest market, accounting for more than 75% of sales. The company is still targeting climate neutrality by 2040.
