Tesla expanded its Malaysian range with a new Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant, pitched as the sweet spot for buyers chasing distance without paying for dual motors.

The newcomer sits between the existing Model Y RWD and Long Range AWD in both price and performance.

Tesla quoted a 661km (WLTP) range for the new Model Y version. That figure topped the Long Range AWD’s 600km and comfortably cleared the standard RWD’s 466km, based on the published line-up comparisons.

Pricing is listed as RM218,575 (on-the-road without insurance).

Tesla also positioned the Long Range RWD as quicker than the base car. Reported 0–100kph time is 5.6 seconds versus 5.9 seconds for the Model Y RWD and 4.8 seconds for the Long Range AWD.

In terms of fast-charging, the Long Range RWD can add 267km in 15 minutes on Supercharging just like Long Range AWD under the same conditions. This contrasts with the standard RWD’s 238km.

The Long Range RWD is listed with 19-inch Crossflow wheels only.

Tesla also broadened the Model 3 range with a new Model 3 Standard RWD, priced from RM149,580 (on-the-road without insurance).

Tesla quoted 534km (WLTP) and 0–100kph in 6.2 seconds, making it the brand’s lowest-cost entry point.

The lower price is the result of clear de-contenting. The Standard RWD is limited to three paint colours, uses 18-inch Prismata wheels only, and comes with passive dampers. Inside, it is black-only, the 8-inch rear screen is omitted, there are no ventilated seats, and the audio system is pared back to seven speakers.

Driver assists still starts with Basic Autopilot, with paid upgrades remaining on the menu.

Tesla said prices for Model 3 and Model Y remained unchanged for 2026 despite the end of CBU EV tax exemptions on Dec 31, 2025.

Tesla is not alone in trying to keep the sticker shock at bay. Denza Malaysia likewise said it is not raising prices for 2026, even as the market adjusts after the end of the CBU EV tax exemption. However, Denza’s assurance is only for the 2025 stock, which is now running low. The new batches shipped in from 2026 are expected to increase in prices.
