Changan’s Deepal brand has lit up China’s EV market with the launch of its new L06 sedan, billed as a “long-range magnetic-ride intelligent sports sedan” and already off to a flying start with more than 20,000 orders in its first hour on sale.
Revealed in Chongqing on Nov 18, the L06 is pitched squarely at mass-market rivals such as the Xpeng Mona M03 and BYD Seal 06, but with a tech twist to stand out.
After a limited-time discount, prices start from 132,900 yuan (RM78,000) and run to 156,900 yuan (RM92,000), putting Ferrari-style suspension within reach of China’s middle class.
Deepal is also throwing in sweeteners. Customers who place a pre-order before Nov 30 with a 999 yuan (RM584) deposit get a 3,000 yuan (RM1,752) rebate and a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 action camera, provided they complete delivery by the end of January 2026.
The big news is under the bodywork.
The L06 is the first production car in China to use BWI Group’s fourth-generation MagneRide magnetorheological dampers, the same active system found in Ferrari, Lamborghini and Cadillac models. Able to adjust damping up to 1,000 times a second, it is designed to juggle sharp handling with near-limousine ride comfort.
Buyers can choose between two powertrain types.
The pure electric version uses a 200kW rear motor and CATL LFP batteries of 56.12kWh or 68.82kWh, delivering claimed CLTC ranges of 560km and 670km respectively, with 30–80% fast charging in about 15 minutes.
An extended-range version pairs a 1.5-litre engine acting as a generator with a 175kW motor and a 28.39kWh battery.
Deepal claims up to 240km of electric-only running and as much as 1,500km of combined cruising on a full tank and charge.
Measuring 4,830mm long and 1,905mm wide with a 2,900mm wheelbase, the five-seat fastback wears a closed grille, split “T” headlights and frameless doors. The exterior was penned by former Volkswagen designer Klaus Zyciora.
Inside, the L06 pushes upmarket with a T-shaped cockpit, more than 90% soft-touch surfaces, a 15.6-inch 2.5K “sunflower” touchscreen and a 50-inch AR head-up display, all driven by a 3nm cockpit chip and DeepSeek AI for voice and app functions.
All variants are fitted with LiDAR and a full sensor suite feeding the DEEPAL AD Max system, which offers highway and city navigation-on-autopilot, smart parking, memory parking and remote manoeuvring via smartphone.
For a sub-US$25,000 sedan, it is pitched as giving China’s mass market a taste of supercar suspension technology and big-league driver assistance in one shot.
