Bentley has appointed T. Jon Mayer as head of exterior design and design operations ahead of the Torcal’s debut, as the luxury marque expands its electrified model programme.
Mayer takes over from Domen Rucigaj, who has moved to another role within the Volkswagen Group.
He will lead a 45-strong team responsible for exterior design, digital surfacing and visualisation across Bentley’s current and future model range.
He joined Bentley in 2024 as head of UX design and design operations and will continue overseeing design operations in his expanded role.
Before joining Bentley, Mayer spent 13 years at Volvo Cars, where his senior roles included head of exterior design and head of design, Volvo Cars USA. His work there included the EX60, EX30, S60, V60 and V60 Cross Country. He also contributed to Volvo’s Concept Coupe family and its Thor’s Hammer headlight signature.
Mayer reports to Bentley design director Robin Page.
He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and studied at ArtCenter College of Design.
Bentley is pursuing its Beyond100+ electrification strategy, with the Torcal due to be revealed in London on Sept 23.
Bentley said Mayer will help develop the brand’s exterior design language while retaining responsibility for digital design processes and visualisation.
