Zeekr’s 7GT has received a five-star Euro NCAP rating, making it one of the first cars tested under the safety body’s tougher 2026 protocol.
It was assessed alongside the new BMW iX3, with both cars taking five stars in the first batch of results under the revised system.
The 2026 protocol puts more weight on driver assistance, crash avoidance, occupant protection for different body sizes and ages, and post-crash response.
The tested car was a Zeekr 7GT Privilege AWD, a large electric family car with a 2,405kg kerb weight. It scored 79% for Safe Driving, 89% for Crash Avoidance, 93% for Crash Protection and 95% for Post-Crash Safety.
That put the Zeekr ahead of the BMW iX3 50 xDrive in the first three categories. The iX3 recorded 73%, 83%, 86% and 95% in the same order, matching the Zeekr only in Post-Crash Safety.
Euro NCAP praised the 7GT’s driver monitoring system, which scored maximum marks for detecting visual distraction, fatigue and drowsiness.
The report also noted child presence detection, a passenger airbag cut-off switch for rear-facing child seats, and sensors that can detect incorrect lap-only seatbelt use.
The 7GT also did well in crash avoidance. Its autonomous emergency braking system performed strongly in several high-risk scenarios, while the “dooring” prevention system warned occupants against opening a door into the path of an approaching cyclist.
Crash protection was another strong area. Euro NCAP said the 7GT scored maximum points in side mobile barrier, side pole and far-side occupant impact tests. Its centre airbag helped reduce injury risk between occupants.
The post-crash score was helped by automatic high-voltage power isolation, automatic door unlocking and manual door handles that remained usable after impact.
Euro NCAP said the 7GT lost points only because its TPS eCall function did not achieve the maximum score.
There was one criticism. Many of the Zeekr’s functions, including driving settings and climate controls, are operated through the centre screen. Euro NCAP marked it down for general vehicle controls, where physical switches still score better.
Geely Technology Europe said more than 70 technical reports were submitted to Euro NCAP to support the assessment.
The Zeekr 7GT went on sale in Europe in January 2026. Three trims are offered, with prices starting from €45,990 (RM215,000).
Zeekr claims up to 655km of WLTP range, with DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in as little as 13 minutes on a 480 kW charger, or up to 340km of range added in 10 minutes.
For Zeekr, the result gives the 7GT something more concrete than a long spec sheet: a five-star Euro NCAP rating under the tougher 2026 test.
