Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen has taken delivery of Model S Plaid Signature Edition #001 — the first of only 250 cars in the electric saloon’s final production run.
A new video from Unplugged Performance documents the car undergoing a preservation treatment at the Tesla specialist’s Auto Spa in Hawthorne, California.
Von Holzhausen’s ownership gives this particular Model S added significance. He led the design of the original Model S, which entered production in 2012 and established much of the visual language subsequently used across Tesla’s range.
Rather than modifying Signature Edition #001, Unplugged Performance concentrated on keeping the car as delivered.
The process began with cleaning, chemical decontamination and inspection before XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film was applied to the bodywork. Ceramic coating followed across the protected panels, exterior trim and wheel faces.
The team then installed XPEL Prime XR Plus window film, intended to cut ultraviolet exposure and infrared heat entering the cabin.
Unplugged Performance has worked on another of von Holzhausen’s personal Teslas before. His red Model 3 received suspension components and carbon-ceramic brakes.
This time, however, the subject is considerably rarer: the designer’s own #001 example of the Model S farewell series.
