The Nissan X-Trail e-Power x e-4orce is headed for Malaysia, with its local launch confirmed for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Previewed at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2026 (KLIMS 2026), the new X-Trail will become Nissan’s third e-Power model here after the Kicks e-Power and Serena e-Power.
It also introduces e-4orce to the local range, so the X-Trail is not just another SUV claiming lower fuel use. It has electric all-wheel control built into the package.
The X-Trail uses Nissan’s e-Power system, which is not a plug-in setup. The wheels are driven by electric motors, while the petrol engine works as a generator to charge the battery. It is meant to deliver the smooth pull of an EV without asking the owner to find a charging point.
The e-4orce part is the all-wheel-control system. Instead of using a conventional mechanical all-wheel-drive layout, the system uses electric motors to manage front and rear torque quickly.
Nissan said it can also control braking at all four wheels individually, helping the SUV stay more settled during acceleration, deceleration and poorer road conditions.
That should suit the X-Trail’s positioning. It sits above the Kicks and gives Nissan a bigger electrified family SUV to work with, especially for buyers who want EV-like driving but are not ready to depend on charging infrastructure.
Masao Tsutsumi, president of Nissan Asean and Nissan Thailand, said Malaysia remained important to Nissan’s growth in the region, supported by the brand’s long local presence and partnerships.
Edaran Tan Chong Motor executive vice-president Christopher Tan said Malaysia had been chosen as one of the strategic launch markets for the new electrified SUV in the region. He said the X-Trail would build on the earlier introduction of the Kicks e-Power and locally assembled Serena e-Power.
At KLIMS 2026, Nissan is showing the X-Trail alongside the Kicks and Serena, giving visitors a clearer view of how far the company wants to stretch e-Power across different vehicle sizes.
Nissan’s KLIMS booth also gets a manga-style “Nissan Crossing Ginza” look, bringing a bit of Japanese street culture to the X-Trail preview.
