Mazda has revealed Zinc Green Metallic, a new global body colour that would be introduced across its line-up, starting with the MX-5.
Although Zinc Green Metallic debuts on the petrol-powered roadster, Mazda’s wider range now includes electrified models in selected markets, from mild hybrids and plug-in hybrid SUVs to battery-electric cars such as the upcoming Mazda6e.
Mazda has not confirmed the colour for any electrified model, but its description as a global colour leaves room for a wider rollout later.
The new shade made its debut on the fourth-generation MX-5 at the Karuizawa Meeting 2026 in Japan on May 31, one of the world’s largest gatherings of the roadster. Market timing would vary, with Mazda set to announce availability for the UK and US later this year.
To date Mazda has offered around 80 shades of green throughout the firm’s history.
The colour is notable because the current MX-5 has gone more than a decade without a green option, despite previous generations offering various green finishes.
Mazda has also used green in several memorable ways over the years, from the Mazda-Go three-wheeler to the orange-and-green 787B that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991.
Zinc Green Metallic takes its inspiration from zinc chromate primer, an industrial undercoat used to improve durability. Mazda said the idea was to turn that functional, industrial look into a body colour with a tougher, more modern character.
In lower light, the paint takes on a more solid, greyish appearance. Under brighter light, the green tone and metallic depth become more visible. Mazda said this was achieved through bluish metallic flakes, with the particle size and alignment tuned to create a cooler, more restrained finish.
