BYD may be about to tidy up its sprawling brand structure.
BYD is reportedly planning to split its central automotive engineering unit into five brand-specific research institutes covering Dynasty, Ocean, Fangchengbao, Denza and Yangwang.
The brand institutes would handle product definition and model planning, while the existing engineering unit would focus on shared technologies such as EV platforms, hybrid systems, chassis development and core electric components.
The plan would give each brand more control over future models at a time when BYD’s line-up now stretches from mainstream plug-in hybrids and EVs to premium, off-road and luxury vehicles.
BYD has not publicly announced the restructuring. The final structure, timing and staff movements have not been confirmed.
