Audi has updated the Q4 e-tron with longer range, faster charging and the brand’s first bidirectional charging function.
The revised electric SUV and Sportback get styling, cabin and drivetrain changes, but the most useful addition may be the ability to send power out of the battery.
With Vehicle-to-Load, owners can run external devices through a 230V socket in the boot or via an adapter at the charging port. Audi said the Q4 e-tron can supply 2.3kW through a domestic socket, or up to 3.6kW through a camping-type socket.
Vehicle-to-Home is also offered, although only in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for now.
There, the Q4 e-tron can work as a supplementary home battery through a compatible DC wallbox, which could be useful for households with solar panels. Audi said energy can be discharged when the battery state of charge is between 20% and 80%.
The mechanical updates focus on efficiency rather than headline-grabbing power.
Audi said its new APP350 rear motor, updated power electronics and revised software improve efficiency by about 10%. The rear-wheel-drive Q4 e-tron with the 63kWh gross battery is rated at 204PS, while the quattro performance versions produce up to 250kW. Audi’s own technical table lists rear-motor torque at up to 545Nm, with quattro versions adding a 134Nm front motor.
Charging also improves. The 82kWh quattro performance models now support up to 185kW DC charging, up from 175kW, with a 10% to 80% charge taking about 27 minutes. Audi said up to 185km of range can be added in 10 minutes, while Plug & Charge is now standard at compatible stations.
Inside, the Q4 e-tron gets a new 11.9-inch driver display and 12.8-inch MMI touchscreen, with an optional 12-inch passenger display. The infotainment runs on Android Automotive OS and includes ChatGPT integration through Audi’s voice assistant.
Practicality remains strong. Boot space is 520 litres, rising to 1,490 litres with the rear seats folded. Quattro models now tow up to 1,800kg.
