BYD has opened pre-sales in China for the second-generation Denza D9, with the large MPV offered in six variants and priced from 389,800 yuan to 489,800 yuan (from RM227,000 to RM285,000).
Hybrid and pure-electric versions carry the same pre-sale prices, and the company said the new model will begin arriving at dealer outlets in April, according to a Sina Finance report citing IT Home.
Buyers who place orders during the pre-sale period are also promised 18 months of free flash-charging rights.
The new D9 adopts BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and the company’s latest flash-charging system. Denza said the battery can go from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or 10% to 97% in nine minutes. In practice, charging speed will still depend on charger output, battery condition and temperature.
The line-up covers both plug-in hybrid and battery-electric buyers. The PHEV uses a 1.5T engine rated at 115kW, paired with a 200kW front motor and a 45kW rear motor. Denza said it can deliver more than 400km of CLTC electric range and a 6.35L/100km fuel-consumption figure when the battery is depleted.
The EV range includes single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions, both using the same new-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging setup.
The all-wheel-drive version now uses a 340kW front motor and a 70kW rear motor for a combined 410kW, with up to 800km of claimed CLTC range.
Claimed CLTC range stands at 750km for the PHEV and 800km for the BEV.
Design changes are fairly measured. The front end gets a new grille treatment, the rear picks up a full-width LED tail-light signature, and the body remains very much a big, upright luxury MPV. Size stays generous at 5,250mm long, 1,960mm wide and 1,900mm tall, with a 3,110mm wheelbase.
Inside, BYD is pushing the D9 further towards private-hire and family use. The second row gets aviation-style seats and tray tables, while extra screens behind the front seats and a rear entertainment display add a more upmarket rear-cabin feel.
All variants are also said to come with BYD’s latest God’s Eye 5.0 driver-assistance system.
