Honda Malaysia today launched the updated CR-V and, for the first time, put two hybrid variants into a single CR-V line-up: the e:HEV E and range-topping e:HEV RS.
That “twice the hybrid, twice the fun” line is marketing, of course.
What matters more is that Honda is clearly widening its hybrid spread without forcing buyers into one pricey flagship grade.
Honda Malaysia managing director and CEO Narushi Yazaki said the CR-V remained a flagship for the brand locally, and that the expanded hybrid offering was meant to make Honda’s hybrid tech more accessible while growing its hybrid footprint.
Both series-parallel hybrid variants use Honda’s 2.0-litre e:HEV powertrain, rated at 182hp and 335Nm, with the system switching automatically between EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive depending on conditions.
Honda also added an Individual Drive Mode for the e:HEV variants, letting drivers personalise the car’s responses.
Honda said the new CR-V brought exterior and interior refinements, plus a new paint option called Blazing Red Pearl. All variants also came standard with Honda Authorised Solar and Security tint film by Ecotint.
Hybrid variants run 18-inch alloy wheels in Berlina Black, while the turbo model uses 18-inch Sparkle Silver wheels.
Inside the e:HEV RS, Honda highlighted a darker hairline film finish across the dashboard and seats embossed with the RS logo.
Honda said every variant now gets a 9-inch Advanced Display Audio system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google built-in services (Assistant, Maps, and Google Play apps).
A new Digital Key feature lets owners lock, unlock and start the vehicle via a mobile device, with remote functions such as Remote Window Close and Remote Power Tailgate accessible through the Honda Connect app.
Safety additions included Blind Spot Information and Cross Traffic Monitor.
Pricing (on-the-road, without insurance) is RM178,200 for the e:HEV E, RM195,900 for the e:HEV RS, and RM181,900 for the 1.5-litre turbo V.
Honda said the SUV is available for viewing and test drives at authorised dealers.
