Xiaomi plans to form a safety advisory committee for its electric cars, after a spate of SU7 crash reports in China renews scrutiny of safety and driver-assistance.
The idea came from a Xiaomi livestream shot at its Beijing EV plant. Hou Jinglei, who heads the brand’s EV safety department, said Xiaomi also wants regular forums with owners, media and independent experts, with the first session planned for the first half of 2026.
According to Reuters, Xiaomi’s EV safety operation tops 3,500 staff and includes an in-house accident investigation centre.
Chinese reporting has also pointed to a fatal October SU7 crash in which the doors allegedly became inoperable after impact following a power outage, while another fatal SU7 crash involving assisted driving remains under investigation.
Reuters said no official account has been released for either case so far.
Chinese tech outlets also said Xiaomi planned a clearer way to brief the public on safety issues alongside the committee.
