The Kia EV4 is the first Kia model to integrate Google Points of Interest (POIs) into its in-car navigation system, offering drivers real-time access to detailed information on establishments recognised by Google.
The feature enables users to view precise location pins, opening hours, parking availability, pricing, busy periods and user-uploaded photos and reviews directly on the infotainment display.
Google POIs are delivered via Kia’s Navigation Cockpit, which utilises the vehicle’s telematics and GPS to fetch up-to-date data from the cloud. Information is crowd-sourced through the Google ecosystem, ensuring continuous improvements in accuracy and coverage, including recent menus, accessibility details and peer ratings.
Drivers can plan routes with confidence and adjust journeys on the move, while autonomous systems may leverage the data to automatically reroute around closed or congested areas.
Kia Europe product & marketing vice president Pablo Martinez Masip said, “Offering extensive details about places through Google POIs enables customers to make informed decisions ahead of each journey and to adjust once they are on the road. Places close, opening hours change, more parking is made available, and giving our customers all of this information and more on the in-car screen adds an exciting new level to navigation and the driving experience.”
Google POIs will be standard on every EV4 from the start of production.
Existing Kia models equipped with the connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) will receive Google POIs as a complimentary software update this summer.
All forthcoming Kia vehicles featuring ccNC will include Google POIs preinstalled.
