Another day, another electric car comes to roost.

BYD’s premium brand Denza has entered the Malaysian market with the launch of its flagship electric multi-purpose vehicle, the Denza D9.

The model is offered in two variants: the Denza D9 Advanced, a front-wheel drive version priced at RM259,000, and the Denza D9 Premium, an all-wheel drive version costing RM309,000.

Denza, originally established in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, has since become a wholly-owned subsidiary of BYD following restructuring in 2021 and 2024.

The brand has built a reputation for delivering elegant electric vehicles across SUV, MPV, and sedan segments since its first model launch in 2014. The D9, a seven-seater MPV introduced globally in 2022, is designed to meet both business and personal mobility needs.

The Denza D9 is powered by an advanced e3 system that integrates three electric motors, rear-wheel steering, Cell-to-Body technology, and Vehicle Motion Control to deliver enhanced performance across a range of driving conditions.

The vehicle further incorporates the DiSus intelligent body control system, which features active suspension and dynamic adjustments to ensure stability, comfort, and optimal handling in varied terrains.

Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, said the launch was a significant milestone in the company’s drive towards innovation and sustainability, aligning with its vision for an emission-free future. BYD Malaysia managing director Eagle Zhao said the introduction of Denza is aimed at catering to the needs of Malaysian consumers seeking a premium and technologically advanced electric vehicle.

Enhancing its luxury credentials, the D9 benefits from a strategic partnership with French luxury audio brand Devialet.

The collaboration is intended to elevate the sensory experience within the vehicle, combining superior sound engineering with elegant design. Aesthetically, the D9 offers three exterior colour options—Arctic White, Cosmos Black, and Whale Sea Blue—and interior finishes in Beige and Brown.

The Denza D9 is backed by a comprehensive warranty programme, offering up to eight years or 160,000km for the battery (ensuring a state-of-health above 70%), up to eight years or 150,000 km for the drive motor and motor controller, and up to six years or 150,000 km for the vehicle itself.

The launch event is being held at The Landing, KL Base from Feb 21 to 23.

Prospective customers will have the opportunity to test drive the Denza D9 and experience its cutting-edge technology through a series of interactive displays, including a virtual reality showroom experience. Registration for the event is encouraged to ensure a smooth experience.
