Korea’s Mfive says its solar-powered road studs are waterproof and can last 8 years

Road studs, or cat’s eyes, invented by Englishman Percy Shaw in 1933, have been a cornerstone of road safety for over 90 years.

Now, Korean manufacturer Mfive is introducing its own, with solar-powered, waterproof versions designed to last up to eight years with minimal maintenance.

Mfive’s road studs use the energy of the sun to power LED lights that activate automatically in darkness, enhancing visibility and safety in all weather conditions.

Unlike traditional road studs that can fail due to moisture, Mfive’s models boast superior waterproofing and corrosion resistance, ensuring reliable performance even in areas with heavy rainfall (like in Southeast Asia).

These tough and durable features have earned the company accolades, including recognition as an “Excellent Product” by Korea’s Public Procurement Service.

Easy to install without the need for electrical wiring, Mfive’s studs have proven effective in reducing accidents by clearly marking road boundaries. Their long lifespan and stable operation have also received praise from road management agencies for significantly lowering maintenance costs.

In 2018, Mfive road studs were used in the Philippines, which is notable for frequent rain and the occasional typhoons.

According to Mfive, the product proved to have outstanding performance under challenging conditions, reinforcing the company’s reputation and paving the way for expansion into the region and other markets further afield.
