The all-new Kia EV9 is launched today and is offered in a choice of 6-seat or 7-seat versions.

Both are dual motor and therefore all-wheel drive and in GT-Line trim.

The seven-seat EV9 retails for RM369,668 (on-the-road without insurance), while the more premium 6-seat version will cost RM5,000 more at RM374,668.

The EV9, which debuted in March 2023, has already garnered significant recognition, including the 2024 World Car of The Year and a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2024 in the Cars and Motorcycle category.

The EV9 is a three-row flagship SUV built on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It represents a significant step in Kia’s transformation towards becoming a sustainable mobility solution provider.

The design of the EV9 is influenced by Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy, blending modern and natural elements to create a vehicle that is both visually striking and environmentally focused.

The exterior of the EV9 features a 3,100mm wheelbase, 21-inch Alloy wheels, and dimensions of 5,010mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,755mm in height. It showcases a unique “Digital Tiger Face” front design with a “Digital Pattern Lighting Grille” and vertical headlamps, enhancing its modern look. The rear is distinguished by “Star Map” LED taillights that create a dynamic visual signature.

The interior of the EV9 caters to millennial families with its spacious and adaptable design.

It offers six-seat and seven-seat configurations, emphasising comfort and luxury with reclining seats for first and second-row passengers. The cabin features a panoramic dashboard, dual 12.3-inch touchscreens, and a 5-inch segment display, minimizing physical buttons and using recycled materials to maintain a premium, eco-friendly environment.

Technologically, the EV9 is equipped with advanced features including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a wireless smartphone charger, USB-C ports, ambient lighting, and a 14-speaker Meridian surround audio system.

Its powertrain includes a 99.8 kWh high-voltage battery and dual electric motors, enabling a range of up to 505km (WLTP) on a single charge, with 380hp and 700Nm of torque.

The car supports DC charging at up to 350kW, taking only 24 mins to go from 10-80% state of charge. On AC charge of 11kW, it requires 10 and a half hours to go from 0-100% (the 0% charge shown on display is not actually zero as EV automakers always keep a small reserve of power in the battery).

Like the smaller EV6, the EV9 features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which is capable of discharging energy from the vehicle battery. The V2L function can supply up to 3.6 kWh of power and is capable of operating lifestyle electronic accessories.

Safety features in the EV9 are comprehensive, with 10 SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and an array of advanced driving aids such as High Beam Assist (HBA), Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA), and Smart Cruise Control (SCC) among others.

The EV9, fully imported from South Korea, is available in five colours: Ocean Blue, Snow White Pearl, Pebble Gray, Aurora Black Pearl and Iceberg Green.

The vehicle comes with a 5-year manufacturer warranty or up to 150,000km, and an 8-year or 160,000km warranty for the EV battery.

Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd is the sole distributor of Kia in Malaysia.
