BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors said the BYD-owned roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel BYD Zhengzhou has arrived at North Port, Port Klang, carrying fully built vehicles for Malaysian customers in its first voyage to Southeast Asia.
The 7,000-unit-capacity ship will also deliver to the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore, make a final stop in Thailand, then return to China.
The BYD Zhengzhou is the seventh vessel in BYD’s purpose-built logistics fleet, as the carmaker steps up its export push. Operating its own carriers gives BYD tighter control of a critical link in the EV supply chain at a time when China leads global EV exports.
Sime Motors managing director Jeffrey Gan described the call at Port Klang as a milestone for the partnership, saying the dedicated carrier should shorten delivery times and improve customer satisfaction.
He added that the strengthened regional logistics backbone positions the distributor to handle higher volumes as it accelerates EV adoption through retail, after-sales and customer education nationwide.
BYD Malaysia managing director Eagle Zhao said the vessel supports BYD’s global ambitions while reinforcing ties with Malaysia, enabling faster and more reliable deliveries direct to local customers.
He also said that investing in a proprietary fleet secures capacity for specialised automotive shipping and stabilises delivery schedules amid rising international demand.
The RORO method, where vehicles are driven on and off the ship, offers time and cost advantages over containerised transport, further improving throughput from port to showroom.
BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors said these efficiencies will help them deliver EVs more quickly and consistently across the country.
BYD Sime Motors currently supports sales and service through more than 35 outlets nationwide and targets 60 outlets by end-2026.
