Chery Malaysia has set up a large striking container box topped with an oversized ribbon along Kuala Lumpur’s bustling Jalan Bukit Bintang, in front of The Starhill mall — and it’s creating a buzz as Chery intended.
The box has cutouts in places to allow people to peep into various exterior parts of the vehicle.
While the May 29-June 3 teaser campaign asks people to guess what model it is, the answer is seemingly there for all to see.
All signs point to it being the compact Tiggo Cross, otherwise known as Tiggo 4. It’s no secret that Chery will bring this SUV to Malaysia very soon, correlating to the timing of the campaign.
The box is dripping with hints, from the Tiggo name printed on it to the displayed hashtag #CrossWonderfulLife.
The public are also invited to register their interest for the new model and that is echoed on the Chery Malaysia website where the Tiggo Cross is displayed prominently.
By no coincidence, it’s the only model on the website where the public have been told to show their expression of interest. Chery promised that the first 500 registered customers of the Tiggo Cross will get it by Aug 15. So if the “teaser” isn’t the Tiggo Cross, then we’ve all been peeking into the wrong box.
The model had already been previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow earlier this month. Two versions were displayed —a 1.5-litre Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and a 1.5-litre turbocharged one. They produce 201hp/310Nm and 145hp/210Nm respectively.
This writer had a short drive of the smallest Tiggo at a Shanghai car park last month in conjunction with a visit to Auto Shanghai 2025. The hybrid driven was nippy and cornered well, with plenty of verve on tap to make it an enjoyable ride. There’s enough cabin space to make it comfortable to be in, and let’s not forget, the hybrid powertrain is designed to help save on petrol. More powerful than the turbocharged version, it also exhibits strong stopping power despite the added weight of the hybrid system.
