A 31-year-old man was injured in a fire involving an electric vehicle (EV) battery storage area at the Proton e.MAS Penang – Eleganz Lifestyle premises in Jalan Jelutong, George Town, today.
Bernama, citing Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis, reported that the man was hurt while attempting to escape from the storage area.
He received initial treatment from the department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services team before being taken to Penang Hospital.
According to Bernama, firefighters received an emergency call at 3.42pm and dispatched personnel from the Jalan Perak fire station.
The fire affected an area measuring 0.93 square metres and was put out by 4.10pm.
Firefighters inspected the premises for remaining hazards before ending the operation at 5.57pm.
The case has been referred to JBPM’s fire investigation team to find out the cause.
It has not been confirmed whether an EV battery malfunction triggered the fire.
Proton has yet to issue a statement on the incident
