Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Tiguan, a new electric SUV replacing the ID.4 and ID.5 from early 2027, with a claimed driving range of up to 600km under WLTP testing.
The new EV adopts the established Tiguan name and will be sold alongside the existing petrol, diesel and hybrid-powered Tiguan. It will be made at Volkswagen’s Emden plant in Germany.
Built on the updated MEB+ platform, the ID. Tiguan will be offered with three powertrain configurations.
The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version develops 140kW and uses a 58kWh battery, while a more powerful 210kW rear-wheel-drive variant gets a 77kWh pack.
Topping the range is a 220kW 4Motion all-wheel-drive model, also equipped with the 77kWh battery.
Volkswagen has not disclosed individual WLTP range figures or DC fast-charging specifications.
Practical features include a 32-litre front storage compartment and boot space of up to 534 litres. Towing capacity reaches 1,800kg with the smaller battery and 2,000kg with the larger pack.
The exterior moves away from the rounded crossover styling of its predecessors, adopting a more upright SUV profile and conventional pull-type door handles.
Inside, Volkswagen has responded to customer feedback by restoring physical buttons for the steering wheel and climate controls, alongside a centre-console controller for audio functions.
Separate switches for all four electric windows also return.
The dashboard features a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and 15-inch central touchscreen, with an optional 12-inch front-passenger display.
The passenger screen has a privacy mode that prevents the driver from viewing its content. Bluetooth headphones allow passengers to listen privately.
Volkswagen has also introduced retro-style digital instruments inspired by the fourth-generation Golf, while the infotainment system offers virtual displays featuring several historic Volkswagen models.
Standard one-pedal driving allows strong deceleration by releasing the accelerator.
Other technologies include Connected Travel Assist with assisted motorway lane changes and traffic-light recognition, a smartphone-based digital key and vehicle-to-load capability through a charging-port adaptor.
Equipment choices comprise Trend, Life, Style and R-Line, with optional ventilated and massaging front seats, a panoramic sunroof and Harman Kardon audio system.
European pre-sales begin on Oct 13, with German prices starting at €42,695 (RM195,700).
