Pro-NET (Proton New Energy Technology) and EV Connection (EVC), operator of the JomCharge network, have launched a program to enhance EV accessibility in Malaysia’s high-rise residential buildings.

The Pro-NET-EVC Condominium EV Charging Infrastructure Programme aims to install EV chargers at 100 condominiums currently without charging facilities while ensuring competitive rates at 70 existing JomCharge-connected condominiums.

The program supports Malaysia’s target of 10,000 EV charging points by 2025, addressing a critical need as around 70% of Klang Valley residents live in high-rise buildings.

EVC will fund the installations, including infrastructure, compliance costs, and charger management systems, for qualifying condominiums. Applications can be submitted via EVC’s website, and selected condominiums will also benefit from a revenue-sharing mechanism. Charging rates are set at RM0.70/kWh.

Discounted rates for Proton e.MAS 7 users

Starting January 2025, Proton e.MAS 7 users will receive a 10% discount on these rates, reducing costs to RM0.63/kWh—close to TNB residential tariffs for landed homes. Existing condominiums on JomCharge with time-based rates will also benefit from this discount.

The initiative builds on Pro-NET and EVC’s collaboration, which includes managing home wall charger installations for smart EV owners and integrating the JomCharge network with Pro-NET’s charging ecosystem. To date, Pro-NET has installed over 400 chargers, and JomCharge features 600 charging points, facilitating 2,000 sessions since the launch of smart EVs.

Pro-NET CEO Zhang Qiang highlighted the importance of accessible charging for EV adoption, particularly for condominium residents. “This initiative not only adds value to EV ownership but also removes barriers for those living in high-rises,” he said.

EVC managing director Lee Yuen How echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for affordability as EV adoption grows.

Proton e.MAS 7 early bird offers

Proton’s e.MAS 7 is available for booking with a fee of RM500 through the Proton e.MAS app or dealerships. Early adopters can enjoy the Pioneer Privilege Deal, offering a RM500 rebate and a gift pack worth RM1,000.

This partnership reinforces Malaysia’s push for sustainable mobility by expanding the EV charging network and supporting EV adoption in urban areas.
