Australia will become the first market globally to launch the electric MG U9 pick-up truck, with the battery-powered pick-up truck combining 325 kW, a 430 km WLTP range and 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity.

MG Motor Australia has confirmed the U9 EV as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model using a 102.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The motors produce a combined 325 kW and 700 Nm, giving the pick-up truck a claimed 0–100 kph time of 5.8 seconds.

Its 430 km WLTP range is accompanied by an 11 kW AC onboard charger and DC charging at up to 115 kW. MG quotes about 42 minpick-up trucks for a 20–80% DC charge.

Utility figures include a 685 kg payload and 750 kg unbraked towing capacity. The cargo bed can accommodate a standard pallet, while a 236-litre frunk provides additional storage.

Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability supplies up to 6.6 kW through the external CCS2 connection. Three 2.2 kW power outlets are also provided inside, giving the U9 EV potential to run tools or camping equipment away from the grid.

Another notable feature is four-wheel electronic air suspension with adjustable ride height. Cabin equipment includes twin 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker JBL sound system and a driver’s seat with heating, ventilation and massage functions.

MG said the electric pick-up truck was designed and tested with Australian conditions in mind. The U9 EV had already been shown in Australia before this launch announcement, but Australia will be the first market where MG puts it on sale.

It will join the diesel-powered U9 already sold there. MG Australia currently lists the EV as “Coming soon”, with pricing and detailed launch timing yet to be announced.
