Volvo Cars has named Alexander Petrofski as its new chief technology officer as part of a management reshuffle taking effect on Sept 1.
Petrofski replaces Anders Bell, who is moving to a newly created role within the company. Bell will lead a strategic start-up initiative exploring how Volvo can make wider use of the vehicle-platform and digital technology it has developed. He will report directly to CEO Håkan Samuelsson.
Samuelsson said Bell had played an important role in developing Volvo’s technology and software, including work underpinning the EX60. Petrofski will now oversee the next stage of the company’s technology programme.
Manufacturing leadership is changing too. Magnus Nilsson, currently head of Volvo’s Ghent factory in Belgium, will join the Executive Management Team as chief manufacturing officer. His responsibilities will cover production and manufacturing engineering.
Francesca Gamboni, meanwhile, will concentrate on procurement and supply chain as chief procurement and supply chain officer.
Volvo said the revised management structure reflects changes in the automotive industry and the growing importance of regional markets. Samuelsson said the appointments were intended to sharpen the company’s priorities and speed up execution.
