BYD will be launching its next SUV in Malaysia after the Atto 3. It’s the much bigger Sealion 7, the SUV counterpart to the Seal sedan.
Both the Seal and Sealion 7 share BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0 and use the company’s proprietary Blade Battery technology, known for its safety and efficiency.
While the Seal is a mid-sized electric sedan, the Sealion 7 offers a mid-sized SUV option.
The vehicle is anticipated to offer a range of up to 610km (CLTC) depending on variant.
The Sealion 7 is based on either a 400V e-Platform 3.0 or advanced 800V e-Platform 3.0 evo; the latter enables rapid DC charging up to 240 kW.
The Sealion 7 comes in three configurations in China: a 170 kW (228 hp) base model with a 71.8 kWh battery, a 230 kW (308 hp) Long Range model with an 80.64 kWh battery, and an AWD variant with dual motors generating 390 kW (523 hp).
The AWD model sprints from 0-100kph in 4.2 seconds.
As the Sealion 7 competes with the Tesla Model Y, the BYD SUV is expected to be priced at under RM200,000.
The BYD Sealion 7, crafted under the direction of BYD’s global design director Wolfgang Egger, combines striking aesthetics with functionality.
Drawing inspiration from ocean waves, it features a streamlined silhouette, a low-profile bonnet, and a sweeping fastback design. Its distinct “Ocean X” front styling, with a bold X-structure and sleek water-inspired tail lamps, gives it a modern, sporty look.
The interior, influenced by sailboat dynamics, creates a sense of motion and openness, offering a spacious cabin with a floating effect. Practical features include an electric tailgate that opens with a foot gesture, useful for loading cargo hands-free.
Additional safety measures, such as an anti-pinch system and customizable stopping points, enhance convenience. Designed with lifestyle-driven details, the Sealion 7 is aimed at consumers seeking both luxury and utility in an electric SUV.
The Sealion 7 will launch in Malaysia this month.
