British company Clarus Protect has introduced Armourtec, a windscreen protection film designed to cut down on repair costs and extend windshield lifespan.
Armourtec, tested and approved by Thatcham Research, the UK automotive safety and repair authority, aims to address the rising windscreen replacement expenses, which average around £700 (around RM4,000) and can exceed £2,000 (about RM11,313) for luxury vehicles.
The film supplied by a Chinese company provides a strong, impact-resistant shield that protects against cracks, chips, and other common windshield damage.
With self-healing capabilities, Armourtec offers durability and optical clarity, as demonstrated in tests covering over 32,000km across vehicles like the Land Rover Defender, Tesla Model 3, and VW Golf R.
Priced from £199 (RM1,126) plus VAT, Armourtec is designed for easy application and minimal visibility, making it suitable for a wide range of vehicles.
Fisher said two million windscreens are replaced each year in the UK alone, an issue that burdens both individual drivers and businesses with fleet vehicles.
“Windscreen replacement costs are a major expense for car owners and fleet operators, affecting insurance premiums and leaving vehicles out of service for extended periods,” said Clarus Protect founder and CEO Ian Fisher.
Clarus is rolling out Armourtec through a network of trained UK installers, with availability slated for December.
Other companies offering similar protective films include Madico with ClearPlex, ExoShield and Diamond Shield.
