Geely Auto Group today launched its latest generation Aegis Short Blade EV Battery Technology, setting new industry standards for safety, performance, and durability.

This self-developed lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) is arguably the safest battery in the world. It boasts improved energy density of 192 Wh/kg, is compact and flexible for different vehicle designs. The upcoming Geely Galaxy E5 SUV will use this battery.

    Safety enhancements:

The battery is designed with a high-strength, heat-resistant diaphragm and a stable separator, enhancing energy density and safety. Geely’s proprietary “Self-Fusing” technology helps block short circuits in the event of accidents. During tests, the battery successfully withstood an extreme puncture test involving eight simultaneous steel needles and even passed a rifle bullet penetration test without thermal ignition.

    Torture tests:

Geely’s Short Blade EV Battery underwent a series of rigorous “Six Extremes” tests, including seawater immersion, extreme cold, pack scraping, overweight rolling, side collision, and fire exposure. It passed all tests without experiencing thermal runaway, smoke, or combustion, demonstrating its robustness under severe conditions.

    Extended battery life:

Geely claims the Short Blade EV Battery can last up to 1 million kilometers with minimal degradation, thanks to its reduced internal chemical reaction rate. This long lifespan, combined with the battery’s resilience, offers up to 50 years of use based on average family driving habits, improving the second-hand EV market and significantly reducing carbon emissions.

    Charging and cold-weather performance:

The battery excels in fast charging, with a 10-80% charge time of just 17 minutes—faster than traditional long blade batteries. Additionally, in extreme cold environments, the battery retains 90.54% of its capacity, outperforming conventional batteries which drop to around 79%.
