Malaysians are going to see a lot more of the Proton e.MAS 7 in the weeks to come.

The e.MAS 7 is set to embark on a nationwide tour on Oct 5, visiting every state so that as many Malaysians as possible can get to see and touch the e.MAS 7 in person.

Proton said the electric SUV will go on a 2,000km sojourn across diverse terrains and landscapes ranging from coastal roads to mountainous regions, while showcasing its capabilities.

Starting with Negri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor in the first leg, it will then move on to Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan, followed by Perak, Penang, Kedah, and Perlis.

The tour proceeds to Kuala Lumpur and Selangor before swinging over to Sabah and ending in Sarawak.

“Our goal is to provide Malaysians with an engaging experience of how it navigates our nation’s unique road conditions and climates. This tour will not only celebrate our vibrant communities but also foster a deeper connection with our customers,” said Pro-Net chief executive officer Zhang Qiang.

Ahead of the official tour, the public can check out the e.MAS 7 and the Pro-Net team in action at key locations in Putrajaya on Sept 25 and Shah Alam on Sept 26.

Proton’s first electric model is set to launch this December, so meanwhile it’s still undergoing final tests, wrapped in camouflage and all. The interior is still heavily tinted so that you can’t see inside until the car makes its official debut.

Since the pre-production prototype is going to be out testing on the road and possibly offroad as well, Proton figured it would be a good idea to use it as a vehicle to engage with the public. By the time it’s launched, it is expected the e.MAS 7 would have gone even more viral in the minds of the people.

For Proton, the e.MAS 7 is a critical part of its plan as it transitions to electric mobility. It wants to get the product right and the ecosystem ready, so that the e.MAS 7 gets off to a flying start.

Proton’s strategy to expand EV adoption and the local ecosystem includes forming strategic partnerships and sharing knowledge to address concerns related to the segment.

The national carmaker will still keep on making combustion engine cars for years to come, as they are the “bread and butter” of the company.

The e.MAS 7 tour was announced at Proton headquarters in Subang Jaya this evening.

It was preceded by an even longer trip by the Geely Galaxy E5, which travelled all the way from China to Malaysia to symbolically kick off the e.MAS 7 tour.

The e.MAS 7 is based on the E5, which was launched in China just last month.

The E5’s 3,700km southbound trek from China to Malaysia had faced challenging conditions because of Typhoon Yagi.

As the e.MAS 7’s development sibling, the Geely E5 navigated floodwaters and a variety of road conditions without incident, reinforcing the reliability of its technology.

Proton said its joint efforts with Geely have enabled the e.MAS 7 to be developed concurrently with the E5 and to feature proven world-first technologies into a sustainable solution tailored specifically for Malaysians.

The e.MAS 7 is expected to build on the durability and reliability shown by the E5 during its long drive.
