Perodua has revised the pricing of its QV-E after increasing local content for its first battery-electric vehicle, with the benefits now being passed on to buyers.
The QV-E is now priced at RM93,999 for outright purchase. Buyers who prefer the Battery as a Service (BAAS) route can get the car from RM69,999 for the vehicle body, plus RM215 a month, inclusive of tax, for the battery package over nine years.
For a limited period, the numbers are lower still. Until Sept 30, Perodua is offering the QV-E at RM87,499 for outright ownership, or RM63,499 with BAAS. The RM215 monthly battery fee remains unchanged under the promotional offer.
Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the company and its local vendors had managed to produce a significant number of EV parts locally. He said this reduces dependence on foreign technology and supply chains, while also protecting local jobs.
The move also gives Perodua better control over spare parts supply, especially body components.
Localisation does more than cut the sticker price. It should also help with parts availability after the car is on the road.
Perodua said QV-E production has now risen to more than 500 units a month. The higher local content has helped the company optimise operations, allowing it to lower the cost for customers, it said.
The BAAS package covers battery protection, battery replacement and disposal, as well as battery insurance over the nine-year lease period. Perodua said the arrangement is meant to give owners less to worry about, with the company managing the EV battery during the lease.
For buyers who choose outright ownership, Perodua said it will offer to buy back the battery when it reaches the end of its usable life.
The QV-E uses a lithium iron phosphate battery and has a claimed range of up to 445km on the NEDC cycle (370km, WLTP), depending on driving style, temperature and road conditions. It also carries a five-star Asean NCAP rating.
Existing QV-E customers are not being left out. Perodua said they will receive a special refund, with sales advisers to contact them.
Their BAAS fee will also drop from RM275 to RM215 a month from the next payment cycle.
