Aion Auto UK claims it is delivering the UK’s most comprehensive new car warranty with the launch of the Aion V electric family SUV.
The Chinese brand’s Aion Great 8 Promise gives buyers eight years of vehicle warranty, servicing, roadside assistance and MOT support. It is aimed at one clear concern around newer Chinese car brands in Europe: after-sales support.
The Aion V gets an eight-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty, equal to about 161,000km. Its traction battery is covered for eight years or 125,000 miles, or about 201,000km, with support if battery State of Health falls below 70% within that period.
The powertrain warranty also runs for eight years or 160,000km. It covers major electric drive components including the motor, reduction gear, charging-related components, electric vehicle controller, inverter, DC-DC converter and high-voltage cable connections.
There are limits. Wear items such as brake pads, brake discs, wiper blades, air-conditioning filters, fuses, bulbs, relays and key fob batteries are covered for six months or 9,656km.
Tyres and the 12V battery are covered for 12 months or 19,312km. Paint gets three years of unlimited-mileage cover, while anti-perforation cover runs for eight years with no mileage cap.
Aion said the Great 8 Promise is included as standard with all Aion cars in the UK, regardless of how they are bought. The brand estimates the package could save owners more than £2,900 (RM15,800) over the first eight years.
The company is also tackling the parts-supply question. Aion Auto UK said it has partnered with DHL to open a stocked parts warehouse in Bury St Edmunds, with 24-hour parts supply across the UK.
Genuine parts bought from or fitted by an authorised Aion dealer or repairer carry their own warranty. Customer-purchased genuine parts are covered for two years with unlimited mileage, while battery and drive-unit spare parts are covered for four years or 50,000 miles.
Aion said it worked with Thatcham Research before launch to improve the Aion V’s repairability and insurability. The SUV has received a group 32 insurance rating in the UK.
The warranty does not cover misuse, accident damage, overloading or problems caused by unauthorised repair work. Still, for a new entrant trying to win trust, long cover and local parts support are a sensible start.
