The Ministry of Transport is seeking public feedback as it develops the country’s autonomous vehicle roadmap, with Miros and Futurise Sdn Bhd working on the consultation.

The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) said the exercise is open to industry players, government agencies, academics, researchers, transport operators, technology providers, NGOs and other stakeholders.

Feedback is being collected through the government’s Unified Public Consultation portal until June 30, 2026.

The roadmap is meant to give Malaysia a clear, staged plan for the safe development and deployment of autonomous vehicle technology.

It would guide policy, legislation, safety rules, infrastructure readiness, testing methods, public acceptance and the AV industry.

The consultation covers seven areas: Malaysia’s AV direction and priorities; policy, legal and governance structures; safety standards and testing requirements; physical and digital infrastructure; public acceptance and user confidence; economic, industrial, talent and research opportunities; and possible pilot projects or regulatory sandboxes.

Miros said autonomous vehicle technology could improve mobility, reduce crash risks, strengthen public transport and build new high-tech activity in Malaysia.

In addition, data governance, legal requirements, infrastructure, user acceptance and social effects would all need to be addressed before AVs can be deployed more widely.
