Denza is preparing to add a second model in Malaysia, with registration of interest now open for the B8 plug-in hybrid SUV. That would give the brand something beyond the D9 MPV in its local line-up.
The B8 is the overseas name for the Fangchengbao Bao 8 sold in China under BYD’s off-road-focused premium sub-brand.
The SUV measures 5,195 mm long, 1,994 mm wide and 1,905 mm tall, with a 2,920 mm wheelbase, putting it firmly in full-size territory.
Under the bonnet is BYD’s plug-in hybrid setup, which combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors. Output is quoted at 748 PS and 760 Nm.
The B8 uses a 36.8 kWh Blade LFP battery. Denza quotes 125km of electric-only range on the CLTC cycle and a total range of 1,200km (900km estimated WLTP range). It supports 11 kW AC and 120 kW DC charging, with a 30-80% DC top-up taking 16 minutes.
The cabin can be configured with five, six or seven seats. In six-seat form, the second row gets captain chairs with heating, ventilation and massage.
Final Malaysian specification has not been announced, but the Bao 8 is known to be equipped with twin 12.3-inch displays, a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, 18 Devialet speakers, tri-zone climate control and soft-close doors. A DJI roof-mounted drone platform is an extra-cost option.
