This is the Hyundai Inster, a new sub-compact electric car designed for the urban jungle.
And the range says as much with 355km to its name.
The new A-segment sub-compact EV was unveiled at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show. It will be sold domestically as the Casper Electric but overseas as Inster.
The Inster’s bold design blends futuristic aesthetics with a spacious interior within a small SUV body.
It offers a sophisticated technology package, fast charging capabilities, and an all-electric range (AER) of up to 355 km, positioning it as a leader in its segment.
The Inster combines eco-friendly flexibility with agile driving dynamics and seamless connectivity, offering increased efficiency compared to larger models.
Building on the design legacy of the petrol-powered Casper, the Inster features an extended body and wheelbase for more interior space and a robust road presence.
Its dimensions position it between traditional A-segment city cars and larger B-segment models, enhancing maneuverability and practicality.
Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Design Center, stated that the Inster redefines the small SUV image with its distinctive design and customer-centric interior.
The Inster’s exterior is characterised by a small SUV profile with clean surfaces, strong fenders, a high-tech bumper, and a bold skid plate.
Its LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and tail lamps enhance its futuristic appearance.
Customers can personalise their Inster with LED projection headlamps, a two-tone exterior with a contrasting black roof, and a choice of 15-inch or 17-inch wheels.
Inside, the Inster features a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, and a wireless charging dock. The interior design includes customisable upper door trim garnishes and a pixel theme on the steering wheel.
The Inster offers versatile seating arrangements with walk-through access, fold-flat seats, and a front bench seat option. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are also available. The second-row seats split 50/50, slide, and recline.
The Inster offers a variety of exterior colors, including Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, and Sienna Orange Metallic.
Interior trim options include Black and Khaki Brown with Newtro Beige two-tone cloth trim. Both the exterior and interior utilize sustainable materials, such as recycled paint and bio-polypropylene from sugarcane.
Equipped with a 42 kWh battery as standard and an optional 49 kWh Long-Range battery, the Inster is powered by a single motor delivering 71.1 kW in the base variant and 84.5 kW in the Long-Range model, both offering 147 Nm of torque.
The Long-Range model boasts a segment-leading range of 355 km on a single charge and an estimated energy consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km.
The Inster can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC High-Power charging station. It also features an 11 kW on-board charger and offers external and internal Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices.
The Inster includes a range of advanced technology and convenience features, such as 64-color LED ambient lighting, a digital cluster, a one-touch sunroof, and Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch accessibility.
It also offers comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, including a Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear, Blind-spot View Monitor, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5.
Additional safety features include Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safety Exit Warning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Highway Driving Assist 1.5, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, and Rear Occupant Alert.
The ADAS Parking System combines Parking Distance Warning Front and Rear with a Rear-View Monitor for enhanced visibility.
The Inster will launch in South Korea this summer, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific.
An additional variant, the Inster CROSS, will join the lineup in the future, featuring a rugged, outdoor-focused design. Further details will be announced later.
