Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has struck a deal with UK-based AI company Wayve to integrate Wayve’s “embodied AI” software into the next-generation ProPilot driver-assistance software across a broad range of Nissan vehicles.

The tie-up aims to support both advanced driver-assistance (ADAS) functions and point-to-point “advanced driving” features, using Nissan’s existing ProPilot foundation as a base.

Nissan first introduced ProPilot in 2016 for single-lane highway assistance, then rolled out ProPilot 2.0 in 2019 with multi-lane capability and hands-off driving in some conditions.

Nissan said it is now developing a new ProPilot generation that integrates Wayve’s “Wayve AI Driver”.

In September 2025, it showed a prototype pairing Wayve’s software with Nissan’s “Ground Truth Perception” and next-generation LiDAR, which the companies said delivered smooth, safe assistance on highways and in complex urban settings.

Under the agreement, the system is intended for deployment in mass-produced vehicles, with Nissan targeting Japan for the first model launch in fiscal year 2027.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. president and CEO Ivan Espinosa said the partnership “will deliver safer, more intuitive and more comfortable driving experiences”. Wayve co-founder and CEO Alex Kendall said Nissan is “bringing embodied AI towards mass production.”
