Chery has moved quickly on China’s new electric vehicle battery safety rules, turning the regulatory change into a warranty pledge for cars using its Rhino Battery.
The China-market assurance plan applies to Chery vehicles already delivered, as well as current models on sale, if they are fitted with the Rhino Battery. Chery said its traction battery safety performance meets the latest national standard.
The biggest promise concerns thermal runaway. If a Chery vehicle is destroyed because of a fault within the traction battery itself, the company said it will provide a new car of the same model.
First private owners of non-commercial vehicles will receive lifetime coverage for the “three-electric” system. In Chinese EV terminology, that covers the traction battery, drive motor and electronic control unit.
The Chery statement came as China’s GB 38031-2025 battery safety standard took effect on July 1, with tougher requirements for EV traction batteries.
The revised rules raise expectations around thermal runaway behaviour and add tests covering areas such as underside impact and repeated fast charging.
For now, this remains a China-market announcement.
