Jaguar has confirmed Type 01 as the name of its new luxury electric four-door GT, the first production model in the brand’s latest reset.
Jaguar is loading plenty into the name. “Type” nods to the C-type, E-type and F-TYPE line, while “0” refers to electric drive and zero tailpipe emissions. The “1” identifies it as the first car from the new-era Jaguar.
The production car follows the earlier Type 00 concept, but this one will be a four-door GT rather than a two-door showpiece. Jaguar said the Type 01 is designed, developed and built in the UK.
The numbers are not modest. Jaguar said the Type 01 uses a tri-motor powertrain producing more than 1,000 PS and over 1,300 Nm of torque. The company has not released battery, range or charging details yet.
Jaguar is also making the branding hard to miss. The Type 01 name appears on the strikethrough graphic where the bonnet meets the windscreen, with the linear motif set to become part of the brand’s future design language.
Camouflaged prototypes will appear on the streets of Monaco during the Formula E race weekend, ahead of Jaguar TCS Racing’s run at the Monaco E-Prix. The full reveal is due later this year.
The car also shows how far Jaguar is moving upmarket. Motor1 reported that the Type 01 is expected to start well above US$100,000 (about RM423,000), with first deliveries expected in the first half of 2027.
For now, the Type 01 gives Jaguar a clearer product story after months of debate around its rebrand: electric, powerful, British-built and aimed far above the old XE and XF space.
