Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd (LCSB) will start collecting a private road charge on Jalan Genting Highlands from May 28, 2026, with cars and vans charged RM5 at the two listed entry points.
The company, described in its advisory as the authorised road operator for Jalan Genting Highlands, said all permitted road users, except exempted categories, would have to pay the applicable charge upon entry into the private road.
Collection would be carried out at Genting Highlands Entry at Genting Sempah and Gohtong Jaya Entry at the Gohtong Jaya roundabout.
The rate table lists RM5 for cars and vans at both the Genting Sempah and Gohtong Jaya entries. Medium-sized lorries are charged RM15, heavy lorries RM25, taxis RM3.30 and buses RM5 at both points. Vehicles in Classes 2, 3, 4 and 5 must enter through the special lanes or licence plate recognition lanes (see table). Motorcycles are free to traverse the route.
The road charge is imposed only on the way up. There is no charge on descending Genting Highlands.
One other point still needs clarification. TienCars reached out to LCSB, which clarified that regardless whether a car/van driver arrives at Genting Sempah or Gohtong Jaya, the charge to reach the peak is still RM5 and not RM10 as some had assumed. The toll station at Genting Sempah caters to motorists coming from Kuala Lumpur and the southern states; the one at Gohtong Jaya handles traffic from the north.
Emergency vehicles are exempted without registration. Private vehicles belonging to public servants working at identified government institutions in Genting Highlands may also be exempted, but registration is required and entry must be through licence plate recognition or special lanes.
Listed institutions include schools, police stations, the fire station, Klinik Desa Sri Layang and several government offices.
From June 28, LCSB would introduce arrangements for eligible permanent residents of Genting Highlands. They may register up to two Class 1 vehicles and choose either a per-entry rate that is 10% lower than the normal rate, or a six-month season pass with unlimited entries during its validity period.
LCSB said exemption and preferential-rate arrangements would be reviewed periodically. It also directed road users to its official website for vehicle categories, registration procedures, preferential rates, frequently asked questions and season-pass details.
In March, LCSB had announced it would be trialling the road charge system from April 2. The money collected would be used to maintain the 24km private road and its surroundings.
