Porsche has expanded its electric Cayenne range with a new Cayenne S Electric, slotting it between the standard model and the range-topping Turbo.
The new variant is meant to add more punch and a sportier look without going all the way to full-fat flagship territory.
Porsche said the Cayenne S Electric produces 400kW, or 544PS, in normal operation, rising to 490kW (666PS) with Launch Control.
That is enough for 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of up to 250kph. This is quick by any standard, even in a segment where big numbers are now almost expected. Porsche also quotes a WLTP range of up to 653km.
Power comes from dual permanent magnet synchronous motors, one on each axle, giving the Cayenne S Electric all-wheel drive.
Like the Cayenne Turbo Electric, it uses direct oil cooling for the rear electric motor, a setup Porsche said helps with efficiency and sustained high-load performance.
The rear-axle pulse inverter also uses silicon carbide and can process currents of up to 620 amps.
The battery is shared with the other current Cayenne Electric models and has a gross energy capacity of 113kWh.
Porsche said charging from 10 to 80 per cent can take less than 16 minutes under ideal conditions.
The company’s quoted peak charging figures depend on a very high-output CCS charger, specific voltage and current conditions, and tightly controlled battery temperatures and state of charge.
In other words, the best-case number is impressive, but real-world charging speed will vary.
Visually, the S gets model-specific front and rear aprons in Volcano Grey Metallic, body-coloured inserts and diffuser sections, plus 20-inch Cayenne S Aero wheels.
Porsche is also opening up some options that were previously reserved for the Turbo, including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, Porsche Active Ride, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes and the Sport Chrono Package. Push-to-Pass can add up to 90kW for 10 seconds, while Track mode pre-conditions the battery for harder driving.
Porsche is also using this launch to introduce a new “Interior Style Package” under Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur for all Cayenne Electric variants.
The first version pairs Mystic Green Metallic with a black and Delgada Green cabin theme, plus Izabal Green trim details. The Cayenne S Electric is available to order now.
