Volvo updated its EX30 line-up for the coming model year with new entry-level powertrains, fresh interior themes, a wider Black Edition choice, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability that lets the compact electric SUV supply power to external devices.
“We’re making some big improvements to our smallest ever premium electric SUV,” said Alexander Petrofski, Product Line Owner 30/40 at Volvo Cars.
“By enhancing the user experience, introducing new premium interior options and adding smart technology like the possibility to transform the car into a powerbank for charging other electrical devices, we’re making everyday life easier and more enjoyable.”
The powertrain spread now starts with a new single-motor set-up rated at 110kW (150PS) paired with a 51kWh battery, quoted for 339km of range. Volvo positioned it as a lower-cost way into the EX30 for daily commuting. Buyers who want more distance can step up to a 69kWh battery, with Volvo quoting up to 476km of range.
Software also moved up the priority list. Volvo said a new user-experience update redesigned the settings and controls layout to bring commonly used functions closer, while adding a customisable content bar that can be set for predictive actions or preferred shortcuts.
V2L is the other headline tech change. Volvo said the EX30 is hardware-ready to support it, using the car’s battery to run or charge external equipment through an adapter.
The company described use cases ranging from charging an e-bike to powering tools, a sound system or camping gear. V2L is set to roll out first in selected markets.
Volvo said both the new UX and V2L are planned to arrive via over-the-air updates during summer, and that several of the new features will also be pushed to existing EX30 owners free of charge.
On the design side, Volvo introduced two new interior “rooms”. Harvest brings a lighter cabin with woven recycled textile and contrasting Nordico upholstery, paired with dark flax décor.
Black goes for an all-dark look with Nordico upholstery and dark flax trim. The Black Edition now offers the new Black interior and three exterior colours: Onyx Black, Vapour Grey and Crystal White.
The EX30 Cross Country range also expands, adding a Plus trim level and a more efficient single-motor option.
“Premium entry level electric cars are growing fast, and EX30 has been a leader in this segment since it was launched,” said Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars.
“The latest EX30 will further increase our addressable market in this segment, be a driver of electrified growth for Volvo Cars and attract more customers towards full electrification, together with our electrical options in all other size segments.”
