General Motors is reviving the Chevrolet Bolt for a limited run, with first deliveries targeted for the first quarter of 2026.
Positioned as an affordable EV, the 2027 Bolt LT launches at US$29,990 (RM127,000) including destination, with a lower-priced LT at US$28,995 (RM123,000) to follow later in the model year.
Chevrolet said the Bolt would offer the most range of any EV under US$30,000.
GM estimated a driving range of about 410km on a full charge. DC fast charging tops 150 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in a claimed 26 minutes.
The car is Chevrolet’s first with a native NACS port, broadening access to public chargers. Vehicle-to-home bidirectional capability is supported when paired with the GM Energy home system.
The return focuses on familiar practicality topped with updated tech. Inside, the Bolt gains an 11.3-inch central infotainment screen with Google built-in plus an 11-inch driver display.
Available Super Cruise adds hands-free driving on compatible mapped roads, while Google Maps integration can plan charging stops and precondition the battery for faster top-ups. Wireless phone charging and multiple USB-C ports are available.
Safety equipment lists more than 20 standard active features, including Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking.
A new RS trim brings sportier styling with unique badging; 17-inch wheels are offered in three finishes and seven paint colours are available.
Under the skin, the Bolt adopts GM’s X76 electric drive unit, the latest iteration used across several GM EVs. The permanent-magnet motor is engineered to reduce rare-earth usage, while a silicon-carbide inverter targets lower energy losses.
Blended regenerative braking is tuned for consistent pedal feel whether in regular driving or One-Pedal mode.
Chevrolet positions the short-run Bolt alongside the Equinox EV, which the company touts as America’s most affordable EV with more than 507 km of EPA-estimated range. Together, the pair is expected to carry much of Chevrolet’s 2026 EV volume.
The 2027 Bolt would be built at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas, using a mix of domestic and global parts.
Chevrolet said the comeback is by popular demand — and for a short time, giving existing fans and new buyers a final chance at the brand’s budget hatchback EV.
