JPJ now accepts e-wallet payments at counters nationwide
Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) has activated cashless payments at all service counters, adding e-wallets to existing card options after a pilot run.
Customers can now pay for JPJ services via Touch ’n Go eWallet, GrabPay, MAE and Boost.
The move was announced at JPJ Galeria in Putrajaya by director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, who said it supports the government’s digital agenda and offers faster, safer transactions.
The rollout was supported by Maybank, which supplied Electronic Data Capture (EDC) terminals and its M-Device to process e-wallet payments.
A total of 1,183 units have been deployed nationwide.
JPJ officers underwent training between February and March 2025 to standardise receipt procedures and reporting.
Adoption has been strong. JPJ recorded 46.5 million cashless transactions at counters and through the MyJPJ app as of Aug 24. Total value amounted to RM5.6 billion.
Of these, 245,626 were e-wallet payments totalling RM19.6 million. JPJ expects broader acceptance to further lift non-cash usage, reduce cash-handling risks and improve counter efficiency.
Background figures underline the trajectory: in 2024, JPJ logged 43.01 million cashless transactions worth RM4.87 billion, while e-wallet use at counters was nascent at 805 transactions totalling RM73,109.
The e-wallet programme began in the Klang Valley in September 2024 and expanded to all states, including Sarawak, by November 2024.
