BYD has unveiled plans to bring its full-size Tang L SUV to international markets under the Atto 8 nameplate, following its debut at the Tashkent International Auto Show 2025 in Uzbekistan, according to CarNewsChina.

The Chinese automotive giant showcased the seven-seater alongside the M9 and Seal 6 models, marking a significant expansion of its Atto series. The range previously comprised just two models: the Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) and Atto 2 (Yuan Up).

Launched domestically in April 2025 with prices ranging from 229,800 to 289,800 yuan (RM137,000 to RM172,000), the Tang L has already achieved strong sales in China. Data from China EV DataTracker shows 30,387 units sold between April and January 2025.

The Uzbekistan debut featured a plug-in hybrid variant equipped with BYD’s DM-p system.

This combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 115 kW with two electric motors delivering a combined 400 kW, totalling 536 bhp. The setup propels the SUV from zero to 100 kph in 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 200kph.

A 35.62 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery provides 150km of pure electric range under WLTC testing. When combined with its 60-litre fuel tank, the Atto 8 DM-p achieves a total range of 1,017km whilst consuming 6.3 litres per 100km. The battery supports 71 kW DC fast charging.

However, the flagship all-electric version promises even more impressive performance. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration produces 580 kW (777 bhp), whilst the range-topping four-wheel-drive model delivers a substantial 810 kW— equivalent to 1,086 bhp. The latter sprints to 100kph in just 3.9 seconds.

Both electric variants feature a 100.5 kWh battery pack, delivering between 560km and 670km of range depending on specification. The SUV measures 5,040mm long with a 2,950mm wheelbase, positioning it firmly in the full-size segment.

BYD has indicated that both plug-in hybrid and pure electric versions would be sold overseas, though specific launch dates and regional pricing remain unconfirmed.
