Polestar has unveiled the Polestar 5, a four-door performance grand tourer that translates the 2020 Precept concept into production.

The flagship sits on a bespoke, hot-cured bonded aluminium platform called Polestar Performance Architecture, promising a rigid yet light structure and forming the basis for the car’s dynamics and safety package.

    Two dual-motor variants are offered.

The Dual motor Launch edition delivers 550kW and 812Nm with a 0–100kph time of 3.8s, while the Performance Launch edition produces 650kW and 1,015Nm for 0–100kph in 3.1s. Both are limited to 250kph.

An in-house rear motor, 800V electrical architecture and a 112kWh (106kWh usable) NMC battery from SK On underpin the powertrain. DC charging peaks at up to 350kW, with a 10–80% refill quoted at about 22 minutes. Claimed WLTP range is up to 670km (Dual motor) and up to 565km (Performance).

Design closely follows Precept: a low nose with the SmartZone sensor area, split “dual blade” headlights with Pixel LEDs as standard, taut minimalist surfacing and a Kamm-tail profile. Aero details include a vented lightbar and integrated diffuser; the Cd is 0.24 for the Dual motor.

At about 5m long and 142cm tall, the 5 employs a virtual rear window and digital mirror to preserve rear headroom, plus the brand’s largest panoramic glass roof yet (just over 2.0m x 1.25m). Six exterior colours are available, including matte Storm and Magnesium.

Inside, a 4+1 layout prioritises four adults, with a fifth seat available when the rear armrest is raised.

Front chairs were co-developed with Recaro and offer heating, electrical adjustment and, with optional Bridge of Weir Nappa leather, ventilation and massage.

Rear occupants get individual recline, climate and seat functions. A “foot garage” in the battery improves posture and space.

The driver faces a 9-inch cluster mounted on the steering column and a 9.5-inch head-up display; infotainment runs on a 14.5-inch portrait screen with Android Automotive and Google built-in.

Cabin materials emphasise lower-impact content: BComp flax-based ampliTex weave for seatbacks, NFPP door and boot panels using powerRib, Econyl carpets and recycled PET headlining.

Polestar also cites mono-material strategies for easier end-of-life recycling. Audio options include a 10-speaker Polestar system or a Bowers & Wilkins set-up with 21 speakers, Tweeter-on-Top and 1,680W output; Active Road Noise Cancellation and laser-line ambient lighting are fitted.

Chassis hardware features a compact front double wishbone arrangement, Brembo four-piston front callipers and lightweight 400mm two-piece discs that cut 12kg versus the SUV system.

The Dual motor uses BWI passive dampers with internal rebound springs; the Performance swaps to BWI MagneRide adaptive damping, sampling the road up to 1,000 times per second. Bespoke Michelin tyres are available on 20–22-inch wheels.

Driver assistance is centred on the SmartZone, with 11 cameras, a driver-monitoring camera, one mid-range radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Pilot Assist manages speed and lane position up to 150kph. Eight airbags and interior radars tailor restraint deployment to occupant number and position.

UK pricing starts at £89,500 (RM511,000) for the Dual motor Launch edition and £104,900 (RM598,000) for the Performance Launch edition. Online orders open today in initial launch markets.
