Renault has unveiled the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, an all-electric high-performance vehicle inspired by the iconic Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 models from the 1980s.
With production limited to 1,980 units, the car is expected to reach showrooms in 2027, and reservations will open in the coming weeks.
Positioned as the first in a new class of “mini-supercars,” the Renault 5 Turbo 3E features a compact body just over four metres in length, powered by two rear-mounted in-wheel electric motors delivering a combined 540 hp and 4,800 Nm of torque. The 800-volt system supports ultra-fast 350 kW DC charging, allowing the battery to charge from 15 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes. A full AC charge using the onboard 11 kW system takes around eight hours.
The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in under 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 270 kph. A 70 kWh battery mounted under the floor contributes to a low centre of gravity and an estimated WLTP range of over 400 km. A carbon-fibre body and custom rear-wheel-drive aluminium platform developed by Alpine further enhance performance and agility. The car also includes a drift-assist function, adjustable regenerative braking, and four driving modes.
Design-wise, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E incorporates retro elements from its predecessors, including square LED headlights and wide wheel arches, alongside modern aerodynamic features such as a front splitter, side scoops, rear diffuser, and a rear spoiler. Inside, the two-seater cabin features carbon bucket seats, a rally-style vertical handbrake, OpenR dual digital screens, and Google built-in services.
Buyers will have extensive options to personalise their vehicles, with custom exterior liveries and interior finishes inspired by both classic and contemporary designs. Renault aims to target key global markets including Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Australia with this limited-edition release.
